As a thermoelectric cooler, it uses a solid state heat pump that transfers heat from one side to the other by simply plugging it into an electric outlet. Thus, a wine cooler using this technology has a minimum of moving parts resulting in a very quiet operation. More important, it does not use a compressor which can cause vibrations that can agitate the wine sediments, and neither does it use CFCs or HCFCs that can harm the ozone layer.
Temperature level is adjusted using the touchscreen control panel mounted on the glass door. With the buttons displaying arrows, you can set the temperature from 50° – 66°F for your white and red wines. A bright blue LED display shows the current temperature of the cooler.
Helping to maintain the set temperature level is the dual paned glass door. It provides excellent insulation preventing cold air from leaking out of the cooler and keeping hot air from entering. In addition to this, it also provides superior protection from ultraviolet rays that can adversely affect the taste and aroma of your wine.
The wine cooler has three sturdy chrome shelves that can each carry three bottles of your favorite wines. They are scalloped to prevent the bottles from rolling on their sides and disturbing the wine sediments. The racks can be pulled out for easy storage and retrieval of stored bottles. The bottom of the cabinet also cradles an additional three bottles. An interior light illuminates the bottles.
The Vinotemp VT-12TEDi Thermoelectric Wine Cooler measures approximately 20″ high, 14 inches wide, and 19 inches deep. It is a freestanding cooler for installation on a countertop.
