When classified under the vinification or winemaking method, wines are labeled red, white, sparkling, semi-sparkling, or dessert. Connoisseurs will tell you that different kinds of wine need to be stored and served at different temperatures. Reds are ideally stored at temperatures ranging from 52 to 65°F, whites at 45 to 50°F, and sparkling and dessert wines at 43 to 47°F.
If you enjoy all these kinds of wine depending on your mood, you can use the triple-zone U-Line Origins Wine Captain 1115WCB-00 Wine Cooler. Triple zone means you can store reds, whites, and sparkling wines in a single cooler simultaneously.
The Wine Captain’s cabinet is wrapped in black vinyl with a door frame either in stainless steel or black. The door frame encases a thermal glass door that is tinted to prevent ultraviolet rays from entering the cabinet. For the all-black model, the door is reversible, that is, it can be set to open on the left or right hand. The base is equipped with leveling legs that can be adjusted to balance the cooler even on jagged floors.
Inside the cabinet are wine racks with maple trims at the front that can hold up to 24 bottles. These can be pulled out for easy access. An interior light is available to showcase your wine bottles that, in case you forget to turn it off, will shut after four hours.
Temperature levels are set with a digital control mounted on the bottle retainer at the bottom consisting of push button switches and an LCD display. Each of the three zones can be maintained at different temperatures enabling you to store reds in one zone, whites in another, and sparkling wines in a third. These temperatures are maintained by a compressor-type cooling mechanism.
The Wine Captain can be built into your kitchen counter without huge clearances behind and on its sides as its grille is at the front. This grille is recessed and is designed to complement adjacent cabinets. Its height of 34 inches means it will fit nicely within your kitchen counter. It is approximately 15 inches wide and 23 inches deep.
