With the inconvenient truth of an ozone layer that is slowly being depleted by our use of CFCs and HCFCs to cool ourselves as well as our food and drinks, plenty of people are switching to alternative means of cooling whenever feasible. In the case of wine, there are wine enthusiasts who now use thermoelectric coolers like the Sunpentown WC-06 Thermoelectric Wine Cooler.
The Sunpentown WC-06 is a freestanding countertop wine cooler that carries six bottles on its three shelves. Two of these can be pulled out for easy storage and retrieval of bottles. The third shelf is the bottom of the cabinet. The shelves are scalloped to prevent the wine bottles from rolling over and disturbing the wine sediments.
The outer shell of the cooler has a platinum finish with a matching reflective glass door, protecting the wine inside from harmful UV rays. With this type of finish, it easily blends with other kitchen tools and gadgets on the countertop. The dimensions of this wine cooler are 10″ W x 20″ D x 15.5″ H qualifying it as a compact but useful appliance.
Wine bottles are chilled by a thermoelectric cooling system. This consists of a solid state heat pump that transfers heat from the inside of the cooler to the outside simply by the use of electric energy. Without any compressor, vibration is minimized if not eliminated. Noise is also reduced to about 30 dB, a sound comparable to quiet whispers in a library.
Temperature can be set from 44° to 66°F using the touch-sensitive buttons on the control panel. An LED display indicates temperature levels.
Front leveling legs are fitted on the cooler to enable it to adjust to uneven surfaces.
