With three cooling zones and 14 wine racks, the Miele Wine Storage Unit KWT1601VI is fully equipped to properly store a good number of different types of wines, from rich full-bodied reds to sweet dessert wines.
The temperature in each of the cooling zones can be adjusted separately with the proprietary MasterControl electronic control panel mounted on the dividing board between the middle and lower zones. Up and down arrows allow the increase or decrease of temperature levels respectively. One-touch quick-set buttons are also featured for the immediate setting of recommended temperatures for long-term wine storage, chilling of red wine, and also of white wine. Temperature levels range from 45 to 64°F.
In addition to controlling temperature, the Miele Wine Storage Unit also allows the setting of humidity levels. In order to keep the corks moist, humidity should be maintained at high levels from 60 to 70%. For long-term storage, it is best to set it at the higher level.
The wine racks cradling the wine bottles are made of acacia wood of the best quality. There are four in the upper and middle zones while the bottom zone has six. Aside from two racks that are fixed to set the cooling zones apart, the racks are fully extendable for more convenient access.
Your wine collection can be displayed through the glass door of the wine refrigerator with the help of an LED lighting system. This gives a dramatic view of the bottles without raising the internal temperature. When the door is opened, though, a ClearView lighting system based on halogen lamps takes over allowing you to read wine labels.
The Miele Wine Storage Unit is a fully integrated appliance meant to be built into an installation niche. It comes with accessories for proper installation such as anti-tip brackets and plate lugs. Although you do not need to have a degree in engineering to install it, you need the basic skills of a DIYer.
